Ok so we all know that the 7710 runs to slow for our likeing, but heres a few ways I have found from a few forums and people I know that work for me in helping to speed up my 7710, they may not work for all but you can try even if it helps a bit.

Backgrounds

Idealy, do not have a background on the 7710's desktop as its one more thing it has to load each time, but if you must or want a background then use power file or something like that to place the file in the C:system folder, then open it from there and set as background from tools in image viewer then there is no feer or it being deleted if you empty your documents folder or if you change or take out the memory card, pluss as the 7710 loads from the C: and Z: driver it is quiccker to load when you reboot your 7710.

Apps & Games

Always install apps and games to the device as once again if you change or remove the memory card the 7710 has to reload desktop again, pluss as the 7710 runs form the C: and Z: driver the apps and games are already there so it will load quicker, pluss some memory card run slower than others and if you have a fast mmc it will only run as fast as the 7710, so what a wast there. Only install apps and games which you know you are going to use and play with, otherwise you are just bunging up the 7710's memory which yet again makes it run slow.

MP3's - Pictures - Documents

Store anything else like your mp3's imanges or anything you want on your mmc as it all helps to keep the 7710's memory free and gives you more room for installing apps and games, pluss as there not in use all the time they are not loaded! Only when you need them so yet again more speed. Pluss you can scan these files with your pc's antivirus software to keep them virus free!

GIF Images

As you know the 7710 does not like gif images as some say the devise runs to slow, well i think this is wrong, it can but just verry slowly so I recomend not to run them as the 7710 uses a lot of cpu and memory to do so and yes you might get the accasional general error saying "memmory full", so just dont run them. But saying thiss some of the new games like s-tetris run simulaur images and they are fine so it might be file sizes I am not sure yet.

Themes

Ok ahmetfx everyone loves your themes great work! But the 7710 has a speed improvement if you use its original default theme the symbian look as this runs from its Z: drive. If you use an installed theme you are just covering up the original symbian look so in affect you are running two themes, thats why it runs slower.

Formatting

It is good to format your 7710 once in a while as it clears all the logs and timers and just general crap that might build up which you might not remember about, Remember to back up anything you wish to keep beforhand so you can restore it later!

Image Size

If you transfer images from your pc to your 7710 make sure there small file sizes as the bigger the file the longer it takes to load, pluss bmp files take longer to load than a jpg, gif, and png file.

MMC Passwords

On some mmc's they have a password option, some 2 gig mmc cards work with the 7710 but you have to dissable the password option for them to work correctly. Sometimes the 7710 will freeze and show a blank mmc, so you have to remove then reinsert to unfreaze, but if you dissable the password the cards work fine and no freezeing.

Background Tasks

It is always advisable to keep a check on the apps and games left running in the background, as you know moast of the 7710 apps don't have a close or quit option so they are left open and running in the background using up the 7710 memory so use task spy or something like that to close them down and compress memory to gain the lost memory back.

Folders

Try to organise your documents into folders like mp3's into catagories and the same with images like friends, familly, work ect.... as when you use the app to view or play them its quicker to load whats in a folder of 10 mp3's than a whole list of 100. It just means a bit more work but quicker to switch between folder and to access stuff as it cuts down on the loading time.

Thumbnail Vs List View

In image app to view images use the list view as it loads faster than in thumbnail view, then open an image and press left or right to view each image as a thumbnail its a lot faster than waiting for the 7710 to load each thumbnail image.

Antivirus Software

Ok so some people think yes must protect from viruses? well on the 7710? NO! The 7710 does not need an antivirus as it just slows it down, pluss if you keep all you documents and mp3's on your mmc you can use your pc antivirus software which would be a lot more up to date. If you did get a virus just format the 7710 and its all gone, the Z: drive is read only so viruses will not get in there pluss antivirus software cant do anything if you did as its read only, and if you have a back up on your mmc scan it with you pc's antivirus software format the 7710 then restore back up all gone! Remember to regually make a back up incase anything like this happens!

Internet Browser

Every so often the internet browser gets quite slow and takes longer to load, this is because of it's coach - the pages it stores. It is a good idea to set the coach details to "0" so it doesnt save internet pages to the 7710's memory, also keep a check on the coockies and history lists, clear them once in a while espesially if you connect via bluetooth to the internet as you can access more pages faster. Pluss when the browser is closed or reloaded the coach is automaticly deleted! It also cuts down the loading time of the browser. Another good web browser is the "Opera Mini" it's twice as fast as the default opera web browser and it's capable of accessing wap based web sites where as the default browser has difficaulty!

Battery Power

Go to controll panel and move the brightness down a block, seconly turn the screen and key touch tones off, and thirdly try to use a short ringtone not a two minute one as the rear speaker drains battery power! OR you could just set to vibrate as it's only a small motor! The same when listening to mp3's or watching video's - use the headse as it sounds a lot nicer got a bit of base to it and it doesnt use a lot of battery power espesially when the screen fades out as you can use the headset to switch betweene tracks!

Sound

I found that the 7710 has good sound quallity via the headset, nice and basey, but when it comes to the loud speaker, well I think it's a bit pore so to increase sound volume for mp3's use mp3 gain to increase volume from 89% to 100%, its nise and loud via loud speaker but still no base, then I thought nice big speaker and they covered it up! So I drilled 4 small holes in the back cover where the speaker is, sanded and smoothed down, then played an mp3 put the phone at an angle on a tabble and wow! Realy loud, can't do much about the base though.

Playing Games

To get the best game performance and quallity it is best to use task spy or a simulaur application to close all other un wanted applications down like messages, web, clock, stuff like that, pluss compress memmory! These will help a lot esspessially if running emulators such as picodrive.

Lock-Ups & Freazing

If your 7710 just locks uo OR freazes and starts running verry slow simply remove the back cover, take out the mmc and the 7710 should unfreaze, then replace the mmc and back cover and there you go!

File Systems

Remember that the 7710's mmc's use a FAT file system where as pc's mainly use FAT32 or NTFS, formatting an mmc into other formats will make it unusable in your 7710! Make sure it is formatted to a FAT file system, if you are not sure just format via your 7710 and it will sort it out for you.

So there you have it a few things which might help, there nothing to drastic so you can always put stuff back the way you want if it doesn't work for you, I will add more tips if I come accross them or add them to the list if you think of any!
